From Priests’ Secretary: a great comprehensive list of Catholics Apps. Pretty Apple heavy, but a good variety of things that can also be used as desktop apps, or on your iPod.
Applications for All Saints
Since it’s All Saints day, let’s talk about some Saint-based mobile applications.
Both Android and iPhone offer a free saint of the day app. The Android version is a nice widget that gives you the Saint of the day right on your home screen. The wish by SMS or mail would be a great feature if it didn’t leave so much to be desired – it simply sends a text message with the name of the saint.
The Android Prayers to Saints app leaves a lot to be desired in the graphics arena. The paid app, Patron Saints Pocket Guide seems like something great for kids to learn on. The iPhone version lets you “light” a candle.
Do we want the ability to connect with the saints as we’re on the go? Or would we rather be in a dark church, or at home with a favorite prayer book? As for myself, I’d like to find a nice saint app that I really enjoy. That way when I do have downtime – waiting in a doctor’s office, for example, maybe I would say a prayer rather than check my Facebook for the umpteenth time.
St. Josemaria app for iPhone
Opus Dei Today has a nice spread on the iPhone app of St. Josemaria. This is a nice-looking app, typical of what you would see for an iPhone. It’s available in the Apple app store, unfortunately only available for iPhone. Those of us using Droids or other mobile devices will have to wait patiently for the developers to catch up to the demand!
